Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground round
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce

Slider Assembly

  • 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian rolls, cut in half horizontally, without separating individual rolls
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked until crisp
  • 1 jalapeno, thinly sliced, or more to taste
  • 1/2 cup crispy fried onions

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground round and cook while crumbling with a spoon until no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
  2. Season the meat: Add kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, granulated garlic, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce to the beef. Stir well to combine.
  3. Add barbecue sauce and simmer: Pour in the barbecue sauce and stir until evenly mixed. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 2 minutes to blend flavors, then remove from heat.
  4. Prepare the slider base: Place the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls on a small rimmed baking sheet, keeping them together as a sheet.
  5. Layer cheese and meat: Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the rolls, then spread the prepared meat mixture on top of the cheese.
  6. Add toppings: Arrange the cooked bacon slices evenly over the meat, then scatter the thinly sliced jalapeños to your preferred heat level and sprinkle the crispy fried onions on top.
  7. Finish layering: Top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese, then cover everything with the top half of the Hawaiian rolls.
  8. Bake the sliders: Cover the baking sheet tightly with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, until the rolls are toasted and the cheese has melted and become gooey.
  9. Serve: Remove from oven, slice the entire sheet of sliders into individual portions, and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious Cowboy Sliders!

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, try using smoked cheddar cheese or adding a dash of smoked paprika to the meat mixture.
  • Adjust the amount of jalapeño slices to control the heat level of the sliders.
  • To make prep easier, cook the bacon in the oven on a foil-lined sheet at 400°F (200°C) for about 15 minutes until crispy.
  • Substitute the hamburger rolls with gluten-free buns to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Leftover sliders can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
