Delight in these luscious Cookie Dough Twists, featuring a buttery, soft cookie base studded with rich semi-sweet chocolate chips and finished with a glossy chocolate drizzle. Perfectly twisted and baked to golden perfection, these treats combine the classic flavors of traditional chocolate chip cookies with a fun, elegant twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Chocolate Drizzle

  • 0.25 cup melted chocolate (semi-sweet or dark chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is creamy and smooth. Add in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition to ensure a homogenous batter.
  2. Add dry ingredients: Sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Avoid over-mixing to keep the dough tender.
  3. Fold in chocolate chips: Gently fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the cookie dough until evenly distributed throughout.
  4. Form and twist dough ropes: Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into ropes approximately 8 inches long. Lightly twist two ropes together to create the characteristic twisted shape. Place the twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, leaving some space between them.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cookie dough twists for 10–12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown but the centers remain soft. Keep a close eye to prevent over-baking.
  6. Drizzle chocolate and cool: Remove the twists from the oven and immediately drizzle melted chocolate over them using a spoon or piping bag. Allow the twists to cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely, allowing the chocolate drizzle to set.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use browned butter instead of regular softened butter.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate chips according to your preference.
  • Make sure not to over-bake to maintain a chewy texture inside the twists.
  • If you prefer a dairy-free version, use vegan butter and dairy-free chocolate chips.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
